First pioneered by Classic Instruments™ in 1979, the electronic speedometer is easily adjusted to compensate for over-size rims, tires, or non-stock gearing.
And as far back as 1986, Classic's electronic programmable speedometer was selected by Street Rodder Magazine as "One of the Top Twelve Street Rod Products of the Year" . . . and Hot Rod Magazine voted our speedometer the "Product of the Month" that same year!
Operated by pulse signals from a Classic Speed Sensor
The speedometer features a wide calibration range.
The corrections for most errors in speedometer readings can be accomplished by the builder or owner at any time with a quick and simple road test.
Most speedometer errors come from a mismatch in the tire height, the rear-end gearing, or the drive-and-driven speedo gears combination in the transmission.
Pointer adjustment can be made on the Classic speedometer by simply resetting the DIP-switches (shown at left) to the proper combination after a quick and simple road-test.
The odometer-counter then re-synchronizes to the new, corrected pointer reading and will record quietly and accurately the total miles driven.
Cobra Speedometer!
We offer the 0-180 MPH Cobra-type Speedometer that operates in reverse-wind, counter-clockwise. This pointer sweep mimics the early (and original) Cobra speedometers of the mid-60's.
Available in the Hot Rod Series, this speedometer is in both the 3.75" diameter and the larger 4.95" diameter..
Both sizes can be assembled with any of our Bezels and ordered with a curved glass lens.
The Classic Speedometer mimics the original Cobra design closely.
The complete set of the six matching instruments with the new Reverse-Wind Speedometer, 8,000 RPM Tachometer, Fuel gauge, Temperature, Volts, Oil Temperature and Oil Pressure instruments plus all required sending units, mounting brackets, night-lighting, and instructions are available through Classic dealers world-wide or direct from the factory.
All components are hand-assembled in the U.S.A. at the company factory in Boyne City, Michigan. Bezel styles are available in a low-step configuration and finished in bright chrome, gold, or mat-black finishes, and in a choice of flat or curved glass lenses.
"Classic's Hot Rod Set is popular with many of the Cobra replicar builders that want products with a long-standing reputation for quality, the latest technology, and the ease of availability while still keeping an authentic look and at a price less than the older technology reproductions!", John McLeod, the company's General Manager stated.
"And we seem to have another winner - because the word is getting around that Classic is the way to go for instruments in your Cobra replicar", McLeod continued!
Some Cobra replica manufacturers, assemblers, and parts dealers such as Bethania Garage (ask for Tom Beroth) have distribution arrangements with Classic for the complete sets.
The Cobra Replicar builder may also want to request the manufacturer of their kit to include the Classic Instruments gauge package with the purchase of their car!
Classic was the only choice when we decided to produce our own gauge design
series. Their intense commitment to quality and innovative designs keep them
ahead of everyone else.

Having seen almost every instrument out there, I would recommend that anyone
wanting gauges to complement their own car check Classic Instruments. I chose
Classic to give my own street rod the right finishing touch.

the best quality products available! Classic fits our requirements every time.
And, the choice of design options is a bonus for us and our customers.

No matter what design direction we take on a car, I insist on using Classic
Instruments. The hand made retro-fit `40 Ford gauge panel they built for the
Poteet `32 five window is the perfect complement to our vision for the car.

relentless use and some serious speed.

Classic has always been the trend setter for street rod and custom car instruments.
We have been a Classic dealer since the `70s and know their passion for style,
quality and innovation is equal to our own.
